Here in the Lehigh Valley the Germans have what is called FastNacht cakes. I guess it's sort of like king cake and it always happens on Mardi Gras. From the name I am assuming it's the night of fasting as it occurs just before Ash Wednesday and Lent. And although they are tasty, it isn't king cake.
